The retailer announced in a regulatory filing Tuesday that Jeff Jones is leaving Sept. 9. At Uber Jones will serve as president of ridesharing and will be responsible for Uber's operations, marketing and customer support globally.
Jones had joined Minneapolis-based Target as head of marketing in 2012. His exit follows that of other executives, including the head of merchandising.
Target has been struggling of late in its reinvention. The company cut its profit forecast and a key sales outlook as it suffered its first decline in revenue at stores opened a least year in eight quarters.
Jones is known for helping modernize Target's marketing, evolving the company's digital offerings and spearheading the #MoreMusic campaign, Target CEO Brian Cornell said in a statement. It comes as Uber tries to integrate its growing marketing efforts with its city operations.
"It's super clear to me that Jeff understands scale, operational excellence, innovation and storytelling—and that he's up for learning and testing his limits," Travis Kalanick, CEO and co-founder of Uber, wrote in a statement. "Most of all I love Jeff's optimism about, and enthusiasm for, our mission."
