The most expensive suburbs of America's 10 biggest cities

Paradise Valley, AZ

It's no surprise that big cities like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are home to high earners — but they're not the only places where wealthy individuals settle down.
Residential real-estate firm Engel & Völkers took a look at the most expensive areas surrounding America's 10 largest cities.
"These suburbs  from Bronxville to Los Altos Hills  provide a revealing snapshot of the nation's luxury real-estate marketplace outside of the cities that are normally at the top of the nation's wealthiest lists," Engel & Völkers CEO Anthony Hitt told CNBC.
After identifying the 10 most-populated U.S. cities from census data, the firm determined the priciest suburbs based on median home price.
Here, we've listed the cities — in ascending order of population, from the U.S. Census Bureau — and the most expensive suburb of each one. We also included the median home price, provided by Engel & Völkers, and the median household income in each suburb, from census data.
